Sustainable Development as Lifestyle

The training Sustainable development as lifestyle took place in Iasi, Romania on 13-22 September 2009. Participants were 20 young people, active involved and interested in the approached fields, from Bulgaria, Greece, Poland, Portugal, Romania and Turkey.


Objectives:
Promoting the importance of a sustainable lifestyle and personal development as a step to achieve sustainable development;

Providing information and knowledge to elaborate and implement an awareness campaign on sustainable development;

Raising awareness regarding the importance of participation and active involvement, as citizens of a common community;

Providing general knowledge about waste selective collection as major problem in achieving sustainability;

Achieving an intercultural exchange of good practices among the promoters.
The training used nonformal education methods.

The project respected the 2009 Youth in Action priorities, focusing on awarness of global challenges.
The project had various types of evaluation with: the coordination team, facilitators, support person, trainers and participants.
The visibility of the project, of the financer was assured at local, national and international level through means specific to civil society: press conference, promotion campaign, public debate, international networks etc. The project materials had the elements of visual identity required. The training included a session of Youth in Action presentation.

The project contributed to participant’s personal and social development: gaining knowledge on the project themes, intercultural learning, developing communication in foreign languages, team working etc. The participants have been formed as resource persons and multipliers in their organizations and communities in the fields of the training.
As a follow-up, the promoter from Turkey applied a project on sustainable development and also were developed other Youth in Action collaborations.

The results of the training are used also in EuroDEMOS activity, eg. the International Training „Be Active for Sustainable Development!”, funded with support of the European Youth Foundation, Council of Europe. This training promoted active involvement in the sustainable development strategies.

The main activities:

Training sessions: Overview of sustainable development, Waste issue in modern society, Sorted waste collection, Awareness campaign of European Mobility Week

Workshops: Awareness campaign plan, Personal Development as Lifestyle etc.

Visit to Ecological waste disposal of Iasi County; to Monument trees; to most important cultural monuments of Iasi City
